A Wedding Favor

Two good friends (and a great couple) finally got hitched a couple of weeks ago. I made them this drawing which they gave out as a favor to guests. Congrats again, guys!

D&D Characters

My friend Chris posted a drawing of his D&D character. So I drew mine. You should draw yours. And if you don't have one, make one up?

Dirty Drawings recap / photos

On Friday, Dirty Drawings by a Creepy Man opened at The Strange Circus Gallery. I started working on this show on January 20th…which feels like forever ago. There are over 400 drawings in the show, and the turnout was great.

Mike was perfect in playing the artist Ward Henry Jr., introducing himself to people walking in the door, taking pictures with couples, making crude (yet somehow charming?) comments, etc. At his best point, he merely pointed at specific drawings when asked questions about himself and his work.

Joe was so immersed in his role (a disgusted man quietly attempting to encourage dissent among the patrons) that he walked passed me several times without any acknowledgement of familiarity, never breaking his scowl. For a bit he sat outside chainsmoking, telling people "pretty sick stuff in there," channeling a familiar demeanor from his midwestern upbringing.

This whole facade deflected attention from me, which allowed me to walk around the gallery and pay attention to the general response to the show.

Besides a four year old who exclaimed to his father and sisters, "GROSS I AM NOT FOLLOWING YOU GUYS IN THERE," no one really batted an eyelash. The attendees were, as a whole, seemingly desensitized to the image of a naked woman. People saw Ward Henry Jr.'s obsessive behavior and innuendo-laced commentary as quirky and charming. One man returned to the show with a cocktail for Ward. Meanwhile, not a single person took Joe's bait; most either openly disagreed with him or tried to convince him of some sort of commonality that exists in art in general.

And now, off to Illuxcon in Altoona, PA! Whoa!

Little League Shirt

If you happened to be in Gainesville yesterday, and you happened to be spending your Halloween weekend being overwhelmed by music and friends at The Fest 9, and you happened to be at the Spin Cycle show watching my friends Little League create magic out of mere instruments, then you may have also spotted a t-shirt I designed for them.

Dirty Drawings by a Creepy Man

Videocon was fucking awesome. I love doing events with friends (Christopher Burdett, Friends of the Institute) I had so many fun conversations. It easily trumped Geek Night in terms of geekiness (step up your game < 25 year olds). So if you were there and you stopped by to talk or hang out for a bit, hey, thank you.

This is also the first time I publicly talked about Dirty Drawings by a Creepy Man, which is a show I've been working on with Ward Henry Jr, a prolific Tallahassee artist. The term "artist" immediately breeds a misconception about Ward and what he does. He doesn't really come at his drawings with the idea that they are for anyone but himself and, frankly, that's a breath of fresh air.

The show is at The Strange Circus Gallery, Railroad Square, Tallahassee, FL on November 5th, 6pm. Ward and I will be there most of the night, so you should come by and check it out. The show has well over 300 drawings in it, so there will be plenty to take in. Plus, you'll get to talk to Ward, which is a bit of a show in and of itself.

I'm going to see if I can throw a preview gallery up sometime next week so you can see some of the work that will be in the show.

Also, there's going to be some new items in the store next week!

VIDEOCON

I'll be at Videocon at The Mary Brogran Museum of Art and Science on Saturday from 6-9pm! Videocon is, in their words,

"an event showcasing VIDEOTOPIA: The Past, Present and Future of Video Game Technology. This exhibit contains over 40 hands-on authentic video arcade games spanning a 30 year time period and is the only accurate exploration of the art, science and history behind video games."

My buds over at the Friends of the Institute will be there; they hand-screened a drawing of mine, so hopefully we'll have those for sale.

There is also a totally RIGHTEOUS band called Powerplant playing. Seriously, they are quite good. You can snag their album at that link I just dropped right there in that last sentence.

Anyway, it's $5 for students and $10 for nonstudents. Hope to see you there!

Let's make some comics!

So, I'm going to be teaching this class at Florida State University in Spring of 2011.

There are 18 seats available (registration opens Monday morning).

If you go to FSU and you're itching to make some comics, I suggest you pop into this class BECAUSE THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT WE WILL BE DOING.

Right now it's labeled "Graphic Novels and Animation," but that should be fixed by tomorrow AM.

Aw, hell man, spitter goo.

Sorry about the lack of updates. I've been working on a couple things I can't talk about yet. :\

Also I've reignited my love affair with the zombie- killin' video game Left 4 Dead 2. These video game things are really somethin'.

Geek Night 2010 - Free sketches from Christopher Burdett, Justin Peterson, and yours truly!

Yo yo yoooooo, what it is, Internet?

So this Friday (two days from NOW), me and "the boys" are getting together for this event FSU has held for the past 5 years called Geek Night. I did this last year and it was more fun than any of the conventions I've been to. Besides the opportunity to see our glimmering, sweaty faces (we're geeks too) you'll also be able to play some arcade games, participate in trivia contests, view SCIENCE courtesy of the Mary Brogen Museum of Science and Art, and HOPEFULLY no one will get eaten by a dinosaur this year. No promises.

So come by and say hello please!

Here's the facebook event.

Go Gnolls shirt

So, some people have requested that this design be turned into something cloth, something wearable.

If you're keen to the idea of supporting the gnoll (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gnoll) in a manner that parodies the mascot of a certain university, then I would appreciate the purchase. I don't exactly have stacks of money laying around, but it would be nice!

Also, if you order between now and September 23rd, I'll send you a free print of your choice. Just type the name of the print in the special instructions and you will have it. Just like that.

So, check it out at the store! Also, I still have a lot of Role Play postcards and some copies of Bubblegum Party left.

Tallahassee Rollergirls - The Final Boutdown

Here's a poster I made for our roller derby league. They are WFTDA certified, which is as close to the major leagues as you can get in derby. Anyway, here's the quick genesis.

THINGS THAT I LIKE:

1. Roller Derby
2. Europe's the Final Countdown
3. Tron

POSTER COMPLETE

They're going to be selling these on a limited edition t-shirt at the bout, so if that's something you're into, I suggest you go!

Bubblegum Party - Summer 2010 out now!

YO INTERNETS. My new sketchzine is up at the Adventuring Company Store! 24 pages of sketches, comics, and character designs!

I'll admit, some of this stuff is readily available at some of my blogs, but there's a buncha new stuff too.

It's $5 for North Americans, and $8 for the rest of ya! (The price difference is due to shipping charges, not because I'm a nationalist or anything.)

I have two shows opening tonight!

If you find yourself in Tallahassee's warm embrace, you should come to them! Both are in Railroad Square.

The first is a collection of prints at Bacon & Bakin' Catering.

The second is at the Strange Circus Gallery.

I'll be around. Let me see your face.
